Isku continues its systematic investment in environmental responsibility, and as a testament to this work, it has been granted the right to use the Nordic Swan Ecolabel for four products. At the same time, the company is developing its sales operations and its ISO 9001 quality system has been expanded to cover domestic sales.
Isku has been granted the right to use the Nordic Swan Ecolabel on its products – two Tendo cabinets, Lightness chairs, Matrix I desks and Kivikko seats. Products and services that carry this label meet extremely strict environmental requirements based on lifecycle philosophy, which encompasses the product’s entire lifecycle, including the sourcing of raw materials, energy consumption during production and use, and the use of chemicals and generation of waste during production and the product’s entire service life. The criteria are extremely strict and only a small proportion of the furniture available on the market can meet them.

Kivikko seating, one of Isku’s products to carry this ecolabel, is made from surplus foam materials from cutting process waste, and any surplus material from the production stage is recycled for reuse. Henri Halla-aho, Kivikko’s designer, has also optimised the use of material by designing seats of various sizes in such a way that they can be transported in a space-efficient manner.
ISO 9001 now also covers the domestic market
Isku expanded its ISO 9001-compliant quality system to cover the domestic market. After the reform, Isku’s ISO 9001 certification covers domestic sales, and production, procurement, product development and other support functions in Lahti. This ensures high quality in all operations and customer service, along with uniform practices across the country.
“The expansion of quality and environmental certification is part of our strategy. Via our quality system, we want to ensure that our promises to our customers are realised in a uniform manner everywhere in Finland. We are improving our productivity, while focusing on Finnish and environmentally friendly materials in our procurement activities. We want to offer our customers eco-friendly products that carry the Swan Ecolabel,” explains Isku’s Managing Director Arto Tiitinen.
“The materials and chemicals used for furniture granted the Nordic Swan marking meet extremely strict chemical requirements. They do not contain any materials that are hazardous to health or the environment, and they do not generate harmful emissions during use. The wood materials are traceable, and the energy and climate impacts arising during manufacture are low. All the products also meet strict quality requirements,” says Harri Hotulainen, Senior Consultant at Nordic Ecolabelling.
