The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design has honoured high back chair libellule and sofa embrace, both from the German family-owned manufacturer Brühl, with awards for exemplary design.
Inspired by dragonflies
With its characteristic wing-like backrest and segmented shape, high back chair libellule was inspired by the typical characteristics of a dragonfly, which the design was named after. Covers in different colours and patterns as well as ornamental seams that run around the entire seat like a garland add a charming touch of handmade. Optionally equipped with castors, libellule is easy to move around to wherever a chair is needed. A matching stool provides additional seating or can also serve as an occasional table. A perfect, versatile piece of furniture – that looks as good in a rooftop garden as it does in an idyllic lakeside cottage.
Brühl ´s embrace looks cool, timeless and interesting
The embrace sofas and armchairs are impressively versatile and offer comfort “at the push of a button”: Depending on the respective design version, the backrests can either be raised or lowered with the aid of a gas spring mechanism. The embrace range includes asymmetrical sofas that feature both types of arm- and backrest – straight and lowerable as well as curved and raisable – and also symmetrical versions with two straight or two curved backrests. The range also includes two different armchair designs and various benches and stools. embrace is not only extremely comfortable but also looks cool, timeless and interesting.
Design language that is effortless and unique with international appeal
In terms of materials and finish, both designs are particularly durable and sustainable and therefore meet two of the key standards which Kati Meyer-Brühl applies to all of her work.
