Martela and Tieto today announced a cooperation initiative to boost the creation of new, intelligent workplaces. The core of the cooperation is formed by IoT solutions, such as sensors that measure workplace utilization rates. Real-time data and visualized analytics dashboards add new value for workplace users and provide a basis for new optimization services. As a result, workplace design can be continuously improved based on user experiences, usage data and changing needs.
Utilization rate measurements of various areas of the office help assess the kinds of spaces that need expanding, along with those that are used less frequently than anticipated. Combined with qualitative insights sourced through observing usage patterns and engaging employees with different methods, the result is a stronger basis for workplace optimization than ever before.
Shorten lead-times and the workplace stays in order
Intelligent workplace solutions provide employees with real-time information on available workstations in the office. Each employee is free to choose and book a workstation that best meets his or her needs at any given time. Areas to choose from may include collaborative open spaces, silent rooms for focused individual tasks, meeting rooms of various sizes, lounge areas, and more.
Employees may choose to share their location details with their colleagues, allowing them to choose a workstation close to the people relevant for the day’s tasks. An easy-to-use feedback application offers employees a direct way of improving their work environment by enabling them to give feedback and report issues. As a result, lead times are shortened and the workplace stays in order.
Increase the pace and agility of new technologies to develop smarter workplaces
“Increasingly versatile work habits and new technologies open up a wealth of opportunities for workplace design and management, enabling workplaces to support organizational cultures. As more smart solutions and analytics are introduced into buildings, the more important it is to ensure tight cooperation between everyone involved in planning, implementing and optimization. The objective of the cooperation between Martela and Tieto is to increase the pace and agility of the advancement of new technologies to help develop smarter workplaces,” says Tytti Ruponen, Offering Manager at Martela.
“In the future, intelligent workplace solutions will be as vital as water and electricity. We want to increase the user-friendliness of buildings and improve employee satisfaction with their workplace. Martela has extensive experience in workplace design, and we expect the cooperation initiative to help further develop the offering of both parties,” says Reetta Ruusunen, Head of Operations at Tieto Empathic Building.

The latest workplace technology solutions are being piloted at Martela’s offices in Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden, and soon also in Oslo, Norway.
The new features that are being offered to employees working at Martela House include the location of free workstations, utilization rates of various spaces, and the location of colleagues in the building, along with an application allowing employees to give feedback, share experiences and send service requests in real time. The tools are being used in the continuous development and optimization of Martela House. In addition, both Martela and Tieto will use the feedback from the project to improve their services.
