The French manufacturer of office furniture Majencia has decided to close its production site in Jouy at the end of the summer. The factory, where under the brand name Addform office chairs were manufactured, offered employment to about 25 Majencia employees.
In 2014, Majencia acquired the, almost bankrupt, office seating manufacturer Addform, including all employees. The measures taken to make the brand profitable again were not enough, so that it is now decided to close the factory.
Required growth did not take place
Vincent Gruau, CEO of Majencia: “We have taken a number of measures to get the Addform company back on the right track. Despite our efforts, the economic context is such that the planned growth unfortunately did not take place. ”
Gruau continues: “At the same time, the economic situation of the Majencia group deteriorated in 2017. That is why a strategic analysis was carried out. It proved necessary to take measures that increase our competitiveness and reduce our costs. ”
Not always possible to move
The Majencia employees in Jouy will have the opportunity to work in one of the other factories of Majencia, but the company understands that a move is not possible for everyone. Majencia therefore expects to have to apply for redundancy for 20-25 employees and is discussing this with the social partners.
Majencia is a French manufacturer of office furniture and achieved a turnover of approx. € 110 mln in 2017. The company has 650 employees and 5 production facilities (including the one in Jouy) accross France.
