Nowy Styl Groupis one of three companies that are interested in acquiring French furniture maker Majencia. The Polish office furniture manufacturer wants to expand their activities in France – after Germany, the largest office furniture market in Europe.
Last year Majencia was granted delayed creditor payment arrangements, with the aim of continuing independently in a reorganized form. However, CEO Vincent Gruau came to the conclusion that an independent Majencia would not be viable, after which the trustees in France initiated a procedure leading towards the company being taken over. That process closed on 15 April and It now appears that three companies are interested in acquiring Majencia.
In the past few years, Nowy Styl has acquired Sitag and Rohde, Grahl, and most recently Kusch & Co.
The most striking and best known name is Nowy Styl group. The Polish manufacturer, which gained fame in recent years through the acquisition of Sitag and Rohde, Grahl and last year, Kusch & Co., sees Majencia as giving it the opportunity to gain a larger market share in France. Roman Przybylski, CCO of Nowy Styl, did not respond to questions about the possible acquisition.
Vinco and Mobi Decor are also interested
The other two interested parties are Vinco, a French manufacturer of metal storage systems for both the private and the commercial market, and Mobi Decor. The latter is a French furniture manufacturer, comprising four combined brands with a 27m Euro turnover in 2015.
Decision on 9 May
The Court of Nanterre will decide on 9 May who will acquire Majencia. The acquirer’s plan will play an important role in the decision. According to Gruau, an acquisition by Vinco will lead to the most redundancies, while both Nowy Styl and Mobi Decor have plans that will lead to some 50 jobs being lost. In addition to the acquisition plan, the financial capacity will also play a role according to Gruau: “Nowy Styl has the most financial resources to successfully finance the restart of Majencia’s business”
